There may be alternative hosts for photos, but we are reluctant to investigate the options, as we have for several years been enjoying a state of semi-retirement from Urban Exploration. We are out of space for that kind of stuff. As a free site hosted by Tripod, we are given 20mb of storage space, and we have pretty much filled it. There are still many amazing buildings that are full of charm and character, but they are at great risk of disappearing forever, which weighs heavily on my heart. There is still new information posted on this site from time to time, but we will not likely be updating the site with new photographic content without removing old content. Sheffield has lost some magnificent pieces of architecture, as well as the history contained therein. ![]() These impressive places, once protected by the UE ethic of keeping names and locations out of the public domain, have been looted, vandalised and ultimately destroyed. The thoughtless sharing of place names and locations on social media, sometimes picked up by the national press, has had devastating results. Others have thankfully seen regeneration, but there are still too many that have become yet more trendy apartments. Shockingly, some locations have been burnt, plundered, trashed or simply left to deteriorate. The place is now frozen in time, yet the busy work lives of the many employees seem to somehow echo throughout. The 25-year-old will climb into an abandoned site and document what has become of the building years after it has been closed off. I've seen long-abandoned houses, schools, churches, factories, steelworks, hospitals and vast industrial areas, as well as some rather obscure places, each with its own beauty and fascinating history, often carrying the telltale signs of the people who once occupied them.Įach building is in its own unique state of decay and dereliction, with peeling paint, rusting metal and rotting wood which produce some of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. More recently, the forgotten walls have been given new life by some of Sheffield's incredibly talented street artists, who provide a new and ever-changing experience for the urban explorer. At this time, there were only a handful of local people visiting them and there was little graffiti to be found. I started exploring the derelict buildings of Sheffield in 2011 and soon thereafter began photographing these incredible hidden spaces. Both do not use dark meat, which definitely alters the flavor. I think you will enjoy this place if you like chicken breast instead of dark chicken meat. Could it be that the owners have changed? The name outside now says "DAO" and not "TAO" so that was interesting to see recently. I think the chef has changed every year because the food can be great tasting, and then we order the same items a couple of months later and it doesn't taste the same. The orange chicken has a weird aftertaste, there's too much ginger is some dishes, and the roast duck is not crispy, and the hot and sour soup tastes better at a buffet (this restaurant's version has too much soy sauce). In the last 5 years we have purchased almost every item on the menu only to be disappointed every time. Just like a washing machine, you don’t want to overfill or crowd the fabric – in other words, don’t throw all your laundry in. Gather the laundry that needs to be stripped. If you have sheets, towels, cloth diapers, or any other laundry that you feel isn’t getting clean or might have some build-up trapped in the fibers, laundry stripping might be a good option. After seeing the results this is a process that I will use if I feel like our laundry needs a deep clean. This isn’t something that I regularly do because I don’t find that I have build up from laundry products or minerals, but I thought it would be fun to try it out and show you my results and method. You’ll see this method talked about regularly in cloth diapering groups and laundry forums. Stripping laundry is just removing any residue from some detergents and fabric softeners, or a build up of minerals from hard water that you aren’t able to remove from your laundry with traditional laundry washing methods. It’s a question I get asked about regularly so I thought I’d share a safe and effective method you can use if you want to strip your laundry too. Next week, I will talk about how tide, hot water, and bleach can solve 90% of your home’s cleaning problems.Stripping laundry has been floating around the internet forever and I’m sure in mom circles long before the internet. I stripped both mine and my husband's workout gear, as well as our clean white towels, and was shocked every time. Stir every hour for four-six hours, and the result is some of the most disgustingly satisfying brown water you will ever see. This design enhances light scattering, particularly lateral illumination, compared to configurations without an air gap. Unlike many other fibre optic photonic devices, the iCARP devices are placed parallel to the target tissue of interest rather than being embedded within it.Ī) The iCarP's structure comprises a tapered optical fiber (TOF) and a waveguiding patch substrate, separated by an air gap. The iCarP uses the diffraction of the optical fibre, with dual refractions in the air gap, and reflections inside the patch to achieve a bulb-like illumination that can be guided towards the target organ or tissue. The device is composed of a refractive polyester patch, a removable tapered optical fibre, and a micrometre scale air gap between these two components. Researchers have now created a flexible and biodegradable photonic device, known as iCarP, that can illuminate internal tissues and organs within the human body. Fibre optic devices can also be integrated within tissues for deeper illumination targeting. This means that they can be used in a number of clinical areas, including laser-induced thermotherapy, optogenetics, and temperature and pressure sensing. There’s an interest in fibre-optic-based devices because they can be placed within a target location of the body to illuminate a specific area. Fibre optics are also more versatile than other devices, not only because they are a very established technology in the communication space, but they can also be integrated easily with endoscopes and used with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Optical fibre-based devices are another option for more precise and high-power waveguiding operations and can be made nowadays from clinically approved biocompatible materials. In these areas, the energy-transferring efficiency or the light penetration efficiency of the device determines its illumination intensity. Common examples include near-field-communication (NFC)-based light-emitting-diodes and upconversion nanoparticles. There have been a number of studies that have come out with a range of implantable light-emitting components. ![]() Current Implantable Light Sources for In-vivo Phototherapy When it comes to trying to deliver light energy to deep tissue and organ targets, it is hard for light to penetrate so far into the body because the light particles are absorbed by the surrounding tissues, the photons get scattered by biological media, and the autofluorescence of nearby organs and organelles can interfere with the procedure. This is especially true when trying to create a large area illumination into deep tissue targets, so if these factors can be controlled to a greater degree, then it could improve the safety and efficacy of phototherapy procedures, as well as widen the application scope in where they are used. These strategies need to be versatile and adaptable, as the depth, area, wavelength, and power required can vary greatly depending on the specific clinical application. In simpler terms, 'in-vivo illumination strategies' refer to the methods used to deliver light energy directly to the target area within the body. ![]() In a lot of phototherapy procedures, the in-vivo illumination strategies used don’t have a depth, area, wavelength, and power to be used universally across different clinical areas. One of the key areas that has the potential to be improved is the precision, versatility, and controllability in delivering the light energy to the target. Overcoming Obstacles: The Role of In-Vivo Illumination Strategies Despite their widespread use, and like many things that are used today, there is always some room for improvement. Phototherapies are used within a wide range of clinical settings and are a common technique in hospitals. Phototherapy is a medical technique that allows for the illumination of organs and tissues and can be used in a range of clinical settings, including in optical diagnostic tests, laser surgery, for treating the skin of newborn babies, and for any other procedure where light-activated therapies create a unique light microenvironment on a target of interest. The Promise and Challenges of Phototherapy What if we could treat deep tissue diseases more effectively, safely, and versatilely? This is not a distant dream but a reality brought closer by a new device called iCarP. But how do we overcome the challenges of delivering light energy to deep tissues? The answer might lie in a new device called iCarP. This is the promise of phototherapy, a medical technique that uses light to treat a variety of conditions. Imagine a world where the treatment of deep tissue diseases is not only more effective but also safer and more versatile. ![]() The Mac version of PokerStars has all the features of the PC version, so you can be sure that you are getting the full gaming experience when playing from your Mac. It was a bit pricy, I think the bill came to around $140 but I have paid similar and gotten considerably worse food in NYC during my visit and in my opinion it was worth it. The waitress we had was lovely, interacted playfully with my little girls and was the one that suggested the dishes above. The portions are pretty huge also we had to pack away half the orange and kung pow chicken dishes. I sampled each of the above dishes and would have been delighted with either choice. We arrived on a Friday afternoon with no reservation and we were seated within five mins. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance about it and looks cool inside. There are too many good restaurants in NYC to waste your time in this one would not recommend. To name just a few of the things he did: refused to change our table even though there was plenty of space and other families were getting seated after us in diferente tables, condescendingly said that my daughter was underage without caring to ask for an ID which she had because she is 22, and essentially tried to kick us out after raising his tone to us and not wanting to refund our deposit even though we made it on time to our reservation. The Manager Ryan Stras was incredibly rude and threatening. Worst of all, when we talked to the Manager, he dismissed our bad experience by saying that “it was usual for customers to have to do long waits to be seated despite their reservations” which makes it seem like this is a recurring problem. The reason was that there were no waiters but you could see 8 waiters just talking among themselves. The restaurant was literally at 1/5 of capacity and offered an awful table which. Although we had to make a deposit to reserve a table, we got our table 20 minutes later. WOW!!! It is not a compliment- this restaurant has an unbelievably bad management.
